Essay about Negaive Impact of Soical Media in My Life

When I envision living life without Social Networking, I envision more time to think about important things, not status updates or how many likes I may get on a certain post. I see myself being satisfied with what I have, where I am, and who I am. After experiencing a fast from social media I became aware of the negative and dangerous effects it had on myself and relationships I had with others. Social networking occupied and numbed me from reality, it was a treacherous resting place. Life is more than getting a certain amount of likes or having a certain amount of followers. Everything complex became simple, and everything meaningful became meaningless. Social media became a hotbed of awful beha vior, jealousy, bashing, and bragging among other draining misdeeds. It was an outlet that numbed me from dealing with the anxiety I endured for selfish reasons. I was displeased and certainly not content with who I was in real life and endorsing myself in social networking only made my view on myself worse. We, as humans, have been tricked into thinking that through social networks, we have become more social than ever before. The problem with this theory is that the more we communicate online, the less actual human interaction we have, making us dangerously antisocial. During my fast I ashamedly realized that I wasn’t giving real life and loved ones my undivided attention. I robbed myself from some of life’s most precious moments and I hurt those who had always given me their undivided attention. The substitute I thought would help replace my need for caffeine had only encouraged my anxiety and restfulness more without guilt and added jealousy and comparison. The numbing led to desensitizing and indifferent thoughts and actions. Social Networking has proven to be beneficial to our society, do to the ability to interact with others, spread information faster than any other media, and empower users to make social change.
